November Favourites

There are so many things, new and old, to obsess over this month. Here are some of mine!

Music: At work I’ve been playing the 2000’s pop Pandora station and it is SO. GOOD. Old Maroon 5, Britney Spears, Chris Brown, the Backstreet Boys, and other old favourites of mine are constantly playing. I never hit skip. My copy of Adele’s 25 album also arrived yesterday and even though I’ve only listened to it twice, I think it deserves a spot. Her voice is magical as always and I’m sure it will be a December favourite, too.

Books: This month I purchased Paper Towns. Against popular opinion, I wasn’t a big fan of the Fault in Our Stars so, to be honest, I wasn’t expecting a lot out of Paper Towns. I was pleasantly surprised. I really like it so far! I’ve also been reading some classics. I found a gorgeous hardcover copy of the Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas and decided to give it a try, as I liked the Count of Monte Cristo, which was also written by Dumas. The language isn’t too difficult and I’m enjoying the story. It’s one of those books that I’ve always heard about, but never knew what the actual plot of the story was.

Movies: My local movie theater has closed down so I haven’t been seeing a lot of new releases lately. However, I have been going back to the classics with some Disney! While I love the favourites like the Lion King and The Little Mermaid, I’ve been watching the older, less-popular ones like The Rescuers, the Great Mouse Detective, Alice in Wonderland, and the Aristocats.

TV Shows: If you read my Black Friday Haul post you may know that I purchased a copy of the Royals season 1, so I’ve been rewatching that while also watching season 2 every Sunday night. This show is so glamorous, dramatic, and funny. If you liked Gossip Girl, I think you’ll love this, too. Another great show is Degrassi: the Next Generation. I used to watch this all the time but I lost track of it after my favorite characters (including Jimmy Brooks, played by Drake) “graduated” from the show. I’ve been going back, watching the old episodes, and falling in love with the characters all over again.

Beauty: Most of the products I’ve been obsessed with this month I will be doing reviews on, so I won’t go too in-depth here. I bought and love the Mac Studio Sculpt foundation. I also purchased a Nars bronzer in Laguna, which is really pigmented and great for contouring. The brand Stila has also really impressed me. I bought one of their Stay All Day liquid lipsticks just a few days ago and I already adore it. When I swatched it on the back of my hand in Ulta, the pigmentation was amazing and once it dried, it did not budge. I’m also trying out the Stila In the Light eyeshadow palette, which I really like so far. Again, reviews are coming soon!

What have you been loving this month? Anything you think I should try out for December?

Black Friday Haul!

This is my first time going Black Friday shopping and, to be honest, I was a little disappointed that I didn’t see anyone getting their hair ripped out over the last children’s toy. However, I did get some good deals and I had a lot of fun, so I thought I would share my haul with you!

I went shopping late on Thursday night so I didn’t go to very many stores as many of them weren’t open. My town is small so I didn’t have many shopping options to begin with. I went with two friends to K-mart and Walmart.

In K-mart the lines were insane but it was fun to look around. I found a sheer white shirt  (below)with short black sleeves for $12.00 and a goldish-silver (is there a color for that?) watch for $14.00. I may take back the watch and either return it or get it resized because it’s too big for me at the moment. Both of these items were half-price so I thought it was a pretty good deal as I would have purchased them even if they hadn’t been reduced.

At Walmart the store was surprisingly calm. The only areas with a lot of people in it were the electronics and the movies. The lines were very contained and I even got a parking spot up close! I was shocked. Even people who had gone to the sale right as the store opened told me that it had been the most ordered Black Friday they’d ever seen. Anyway, I went right to the DVD section and started stocking up my collection. I also purchased a thick gold chain link necklace (paired with the shirt above) for less than $5.00.

I walked away with some great deals and even better movies. I got Pitch Perfect and Gone Girl for $4.00 each and Anchorman 2, Grease, and the Conjuring for $2.00 each. I’m sensing a movie night will be in the near future.

One thing that I can never resist buying are TV series. I love owning the seasons of a show. I grabbed every show that I wanted to consider and ended up only buying two. I originally picked out Sherlock season 1, Game of Thrones season 1, The Walking Dead season 1, an assortment of Breaking Bad seasons, and the Royals season 1. Each of these would have cost me around $10.00. I narrowed it down to just The Royals and Game of Thrones, as those were the best value in terms of episodes per season.

Lastly, the day before Thanksgiving I added a new addition to my family. My cat had run away last summer and, as a tremendous cat lady, I missed having one of my own (my sister has a cat as well). A friend of mine had gotten a kitten in September and then discovered that she was allergic to it. She put up with her allergies for a while but offered the kitten to me a few days ago. I said yes, of course, and surprised my family with her a day later. We think it’s a girl but we’ll get that confirmed soon. Assuming she’s a girl, I named her Sutton and she’s cuddling with me as I type this. Please forgive the blurry photo, she’s very energetic and it’s impossible to get a good picture of her!

Did you have a good Thanksgiving and/or Black Friday? Was your experience crazier than mine and did you get any good deals?
