Valentine's Day Make-up

As Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, I thought it would be fun to do a themed make-up look! When I think of Valentine’s day, red and pink are definitely the colors that came to mind and they will make an appearance in every aspect of my make-up. Whether you have a special someone to celebrate with or you’re staying home with some single friends and watching the Notebook (like me!), Valentine’s make-up is something you should try out!

Glowing, flushed skin is perfect for this romantic holiday. My personal favorite foundation for a glow is MAC’s Studio Sculpt (full review here!), but there are many great foundations out there to help you get your glow on. For a highlight, I use the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in opal, but if you want an even more shimmery look you could also use the Physicians Formula Mineral Glow Powder, which is a bit on the sparkly side. You could totally get away with sparkly skin on Valentine’s Day!

Bright cheeks look lovely on every skin tone. I recommend Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Blush in Glisten or Mary Kay’s blush in Pink Sapphire. Tarte’s has gold shimmer and Mary Kay’s is matte. They’re both very bright but blendable, and I think they would look nice on many skin types!

Next I do my eye-make-up. The eye-shadow palette I chose is pale pink, affordable, and also high-quality. The pigmentation is so much better than you’d expect! I used the Bonne bell eyeshadow box in Girlie Pinks, which includes four shadows. I used the sparkly white as a highlight shade on my inner corner and my brow bone, The medium pink as a base, and added a bit of depth in my crease with the mauve-y purple. This palette creates a soft, light pink look that isn't overpowering.

I added a bit of drama to the eyes with winged eyeliner. The liquid eyeliner I’m using is L’Oreal’s Telescopic liquid eyeliner, but you can of course use any liquid eyeliner you like! Finally for the eyes, I used Maybelline’s Lash Sensational Luscious mascara to lengthen and volumize my lashes. Again, feel free to substitute any eye product you like. What works for me might not work as well for you, and it's important for YOU to feel good when Valentine's Day rolls around!

Moving on to the lips, I was torn between a bright pink lipstick or a red one. I ended up choosing three that I would consider wearing on Valentine’s Day. One, a matte red, is called Siren in Scarlet by Maybelline. This is a true blue red (full review here!). Another that I picked, Revlon’s Cherries in the Snow, can be built up to a red, like I did in the swatch, or applied sheerly as a magenta. It has a pretty glossy finish. And finally, if you’ve been reading my blog for a while you’ll know that I love MAC’s Hot Gossip. This is a more subtle pink shade and is a Cremesheen formula.

You also may have noticed, if you are a returning reader, that I redesigned my blog! I decided to stop being lazy and make my own header, as well as changing the color scheme and adding a few sections. I hope you like it!

What are your thoughts on the make-up and the new blog design? Are you doing a similar make-up look for the big holiday, and what are your Valentine’s Day plans?

Xx Katie

  6. mupirocin cream is used to treat certain skin infections such as impetigo, recurring boils and others. It works by killing certain bacteria. That helps to improve your symptoms and cure the underlying infection.
