Christmas Day Makeup Look

I hope everyone had an amazing holiday season, whether you celebrate Christmas or any other holiday! Which reminds me...what the heck is Boxing Day? I went to the movies in Canada yesterday and all of the stores were closed for it.

I digress. On Christmas Eve my family and I went to church, went to a family friend's Christmas Eve party, and then opened gifts. We've always opened gifts on Christmas day but this year my dad decided to work on Christmas so that some of his coworkers with younger children could have the day off.

On Christmas Day my mom, sister and I watched the Perks of Being a Wallflower (totally a festive movie!) and then went to my aunt and uncle's house for a family Christmas when my dad got off of work. We ate dinner there, opened some more gifts, and played Cards Against Humanity. We're all about traditions, I'm sure you can tell!

I went a little bit extra for my makeup this year. My sister had noticed me looking at the Tattoo Junkie glitter lip kits while we were out shopping and she got the red one for me, and I had to try it out! That was the focus of my look so I kept everything else simple.

I used my MAC Prep + Prime primer sample, which I really like, to prime my base and make sure my makeup lasted all day. Next I went with my favorite foundation, which gives glowy high coverage, the Too Faced Born This Way.

The Bareminerals Bareskin concealer doesn't have the most amazing coverage, but it's absolutely seamless on the skin and blends like a dream. It looks very natural and still covers the worst of my dark circles and blemishes. I've been on winter break for about a week and a half now, finally getting to sleep in, so my undereyes weren't looking too bad even before applying concealer!

I used the Wet n Wild contour palette in Caramel Toffee to contour, it's quite cool-toned and I thought it would look better with the look I was going for. I bronzed the rest of my face with the Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil bronzer in Light/Medium and I highlighted with my Holy Grail Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone.

I use my Benefit Cheekathon palette pretty much everyday, and Christmas was no exception. Rockateur is my favorite autumn/winter blush and I thought it was perfect for a holiday look!

I decided to go simple and cool-toned on my eyes to keep the focus on my lips. My MAC Pro palette, which is looking very beat-up these days after I butchered Amber Lights trying to get it out of it's single shadow case, has a lot of these neutral/cool shades. I darkened the crease with the matte Charcoal Brown shade, put the satin shade Era all over the lid, and used the shimmery Nylon to highlight my brow bone and inner corner.

It was a Christmas miracle when I used a new liner to do my wings and got it perfectly on the first try! I've used the L'Oreal Telescopic eyeliner to do a simple line on my upper lash line, but never for a wing, and I wasn't sure if the applicator would work out but it did! I like this liner because it stays in place and super black for hours. Even when I wash my face I have to use a separate makeup remover otherwise this liner won't budge or fade. And of course, on the lashes I used the Maybelline Colossal.

The real star of the show was my glittery red lips! I saw a review of the Tattoo Junkee Pucker Up glitter lip kits months ago from Tati and she was really impressed with this drugstore gem. It looked stunning on camera and I had been wanting to try it for ages. It was surprisingly really simple to do. You apply the liquid lipstick and then before it dries, you pat the red glitter on top of it. The liquid lipstick itself is really nice, definitely worth the $6, so the kit is worth it even without the glitter.

However, the glitter makes it just so beautiful. I couldn't capture the effect on camera but it was like Dorothy's ruby slippers but on my lips! They have a few other shades which I really want to try now, and I will link Tati's video so you can see all of the shades for yourself (I'm wearing the last one she tried) The glitter stayed put pretty well, however I only wore it until dinner and then I took it off to eat. It was somewhat difficult to take off, I used a looooot of coconut oil and there were still some glitter traces.  If you're into artistic or super-glam makeup, I highly recommend getting that kit or doing a liquid lipstick and glitter combination of your own!

I would love to hear about your festivities in the comments below!

Xx Katie
