January Empties and Declutter

I didn't do an empties post in December because I only have a few finished products, but over January I did a lip product declutter and in the end I've emptied or thrown out quite a few products! Once you've finished a product I think you've really gotten a good idea of whether or not it worked for you, so I've separated my empties based on how well they worked for me and my needs.

The Good

Bath and Body Works Pumpkin Apple candle
I had wanted to finish this in autumn because it's such an autumn scent, but I finally got around to burning it while I was studying for final exams. This is a small, one-wick candle that lasted a good amount of time and really makes a room smell good. I would repurchase this next fall!

Hard Candy Glamoflauge concealer
I've had this for ages and it's definitely expired by now and is starting to separate, but it was once my favorite concealer. In high school I got no sleep and had really bad dark circles, and this was the only really high-coverage concealer that fit my budget. It's meant to cover tattoos and I can't speak how well it does that, but it's seriously pigmented and great for blemishes/severe dark circles! The shade range is not very good so I don't think I would repurchase this.

Semi-blended Glamoflauge concealer

Batiste Tropical Dry Shampoo
While this does leave a white cast, it's easy to blend in and I liked the scent of it. Already repurchased but in the cherry scent!

Blistex
I keep tubes of this everywhere, it's surprising I haven't finished more but I usually lose them before I get to the end. It's a medicated lip balm similar to Carmex, which I also like, but this isn't as thick so I prefer it under lip products. Repurchased for sure!

Neutrogena lip gloss in Fruity Pink
This is another product that I've had for a very long time and this one was almost used up. It's a little bit sticky, but it's a pretty peachy pink with gold shimmer. The packaging feels luxurious for a drugstore brand and I would consider checking out the other colors.

Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara sample
I got this sample with my Grand Hotel Cafe holiday set and I'll admit, I had both high expectations and low hopes for this product! I was a big believer that high-end mascaras were no better than their drugstore counterparts, but in this case I think I was wrong. This gives loads of volume and length without clumping. Luckily I got another sample in an Ipsy bag so I didn't have to buy the full size to replace it!

Clinique lipstick in Precious Pink--no longer available
I loved this lipstick so much, it's a pretty frosty nude-pink. I've had it for years so sadly, it is time to give it up. I have a few similar lipsticks in my collection so I will not be replacing it.

Mary Kay lipstick in Crimson
During my lipstick declutter I was swatching a lot of my lipsticks so figure out which ones to get rid of. I've had this for at least two years and I have a great dupe for it, so I decided it was time to toss it. I like Mary Kay lipsticks a lot but I just don't wear red enough to justify getting it again. Kate Moss for Rimmel #31 is a great dupe if you like the shade!

Viicode Oxygen eye masks*
I was sent these at the beginning of January and just recently completed my review of them (here). These are eye masks that are left on overnight and they really hydrate and brighten the undereye area. They're quite pricey and although I liked them, I don't have the need for them just yet!

The Okay/Not For Me

NYC lipstick in Creamy Caramel
I really like the color of this, the formula is okay, too. The reason why I'm getting rid of it is because the packaging is absolutely awful. This has opened in my purse and smeared all over my stuff one too many times. Definitely wouldn't recommend or repurchase!

Kate Moss for Rimmel matte lipstick in 110
This is one of my favorite lipstick formulas, but this color really is not flattering on me. I have a similar shade in my collection in case I have a change of heart, but I definitely don't need two in a shade I rarely reach for.

Clinique High Impact mascara sample
I got several of these from my aunt, who is a faithful Clinique customer but her eyes are too sensitive for this mascara. I like it, I think it gives some nice length and I love travel sizes for, well, traveling. I wouldn't pay full price for it because it's not an incredible mascara, but I will continue to use it.

The Bad

Maurices Lip Gloss
This is from the clothing store Maurices and it's just a plain, kind of sticky pink lipgloss. I never wear it and I have plenty of better products, so I figured I could give it to my sister.

Bath and Body Works lotion in Aruba Coconut
I love Bath and Body lotion in general, but this scent is strong and sickly. I've noticed that I get headaches whenever I wear it so I definitely don't want to keep it or repurchase it!

NYC lip gloss in Dusty Rose
Another sticky pink lip gloss that I don't need or wear. This one is also very old, I remember buying it at Walmart and NYC hasn't been carried there for several years.

L'Oreal lipstick in Tickled Pink
In general I like this lipstick line from L'Oreal, but this frosty blue-based pale pink is not my shade at all. I'm not a big fan of the scent, either.

Swatches from left to right: Precious Pink, Fruity Pink, Crimson, Rimmel 110, Creamy Caramel, Maurices lip gloss, Dusty Rose, Tickled Pink

Have you tried any of these products?
Xx Katie

  2. Aww, this is such a shame,m. The Creamy Caramel looks like a beautiful color, but I understand. I have a beautiful berry lipstick from Dermacol and the clicking system is horrible. Always opens in my purse, so I don't wear it.

    1. I honestly need to start writing the year I open a product on the tube, I'm so bad with hoarding old makeup!

  4. I love empties posts, I literally posted one yesterday! I have the better than sex mascara but I never pick it up, I tend to skip mascara, is that weird?! Love using batiste dry shampoo!

  6. I'm all about the high-coverage concealer (ohai, dark Italian under eyes) so anything that will brighten me up under there is a plus in my books. I've never heard of Hard Candy, but I'm definitely keen on giving that concealer a try! Provided I can find a good shade in their limited range, that is. I'm also super keen to try Better Than Sex, but it's so damn pricey here in Australia. Here's to hoping I can find some samples too aha.

    1. Some Too Faced palettes include a sample or full size Better Than Sex which makes it a better deal in my opinion! x

  7. The Batiste dry shampoos are the best, I keep re-puchasing it and I don't think I will try another one soon. Precious pink shade is so lovely, do you know any dupes for this shade? x

    1. I sadly don't have one yet! I think a shimmery pink lip gloss gives a similar effect but it's not exactly the same finish :(

  8. I need to revisit Batiste dry shampoo but recently I tried the new dry shampoo from Tresemme and it was okay. My eyelashes hated Too Faced BTS mascara, it's one of the rare few mascaras that actually flaked like crazy on me.
