Three Mascara Dupes
Mascara is one beauty product I personally don't spend a lot of money on. While there are some high-end ones I love to try and get samples of, I hate spending $20+ on a product I'm going to toss in just a few months! There are only so many ways brands can create a unique mascara wand, so to me mascaras are one of the easiest makeup products to find good dupes for!
Sitting in my (far too large) mascara collection were three nearly identical drugstore dupes, only one of which I bought already knowing it was a cheaper version. They all have similar wands, but does that mean they perform the same, too?
Voluminous Lash Paradise (top), Better Than Sex (bottom)
I feel like everyone and their mother has heard about this dupe already, but just in case, I decided to mention it and give my opinion of how well these two compare! To me this seems like an intentional dupe on L'Oreal's part; even the packaging closely resembles the popular Too Faced mascara. I've had several travel sizes of Better Than Sex so I'm familiar with it, and I definitely feel that the L'Oreal version gives the same amazing volume and length. The only difference between them that I've noticed is that the Too Faced one has bristles that are more spread apart and therefore they separate the lashes better, but other than that, it's a dupe!
Lash Princess False Lash Effect (top), Superhero Elastic Stretch (bottom)
Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect ($4.99) vs. It Cosmetics Superhero Elastic Stretch ($24)
A drugstore near me has started carrying Essence products so I've been trying a bunch of them, including one of their super-affordable mascaras! Around the same time I received a sample of the Superhero mascara from Ipsy, and the moment I opened it I thought "that looks familiar..."
These two have cone-shaped wands with short bristles and they both give loads of volume. I think that Essence has a thicker formula and a longer brush, but overall they are so similar. If you love the Superhero mascara you're going to save a lot of money with the Essence one!
theBalm Mad Lash
Milani Lash Trifecta ($7.99) vs. theBalm Mad Lash ($18)
Milani has quickly become one of my favorite drugstore brands. Everything that I've tried from them has been a hit, especially this super-lengthening mascara! The curved shape and spiky bristles immediately reminded me of Mad Lash, which I decluttered a few months ago. I'm so happy I discovered this similarity, I was so close to purchasing the more expensive version but I think Lash Trifecta works just as well for half the price. They even have the same spiky tip! If you look for mascaras that give length and hold a curl, these are both great options, but you can save some $$$ with the Milani version.
What do you think of these dupes?
