January Makeup Edit

I apologize in advance for my eclectic posting schedule this semester! I'm currently working two jobs while juggling my school schedule and my internship. It's also the dead of winter here in Michigan, so I have long days along with some of the worst weather in the country. To cope with it I have my winter makeup routine, which is very heavy on the hydration!

Glossier Priming Moisturizer
I start off with this lovely, light moisturizer as a base. It can be used as a primer or a daytime moisturizer, so it cuts my routine by a few minutes and primes my dry skin for foundation. It absorbs quickly and it doesn't have any scent!

Elf Flawless Finish Foundation
This affordable foundation has been beating out all of my high-end picks this winter! If you like a luminous, medium-coverage finish this will be perfect for you. It is buildable, which I love, and it lasts all day unless you touch your face often, or blow your nose, which I've unfortunately been doing a lot lately! Other than the awful shade range, there is nothing I dislike about this foundation. If you can make one work for you, I highly recommend it.

Urban Decay Naked Skin concealer
If you want natural coverage in a concealer, this one from Urban Decay might fit your needs. It's not as full coverage as the Tarte Shape Tape, but it's so much easier to blend and in my opinion it melds into other makeup in a more natural way.

RCMA No Color powder
To keep my T-zone matte and help make my makeup last all day, I set it with this loose powder. I am very fair so I can't tell if this leaves a white cast or not. I don't think that it does, but if you have a medium or deep skin tone you may not want to take my word for it! It doesn't give any flashback and it sets my makeup without looking cakey or powdery.

Anastasia Fawn Contour powder
Since adding this to my Project Pan for 2018, I've been using it a lot more often. It's a lighter shade than I usually use to contour, which works well for my winter-pale skin. It's not too pigmented, either, which makes it look more natural and makes it easier to blend. The refill pan is convenient so that I can buy only the shades I know I want to use, whereas with a full contour kit at least half of the shades will go untouched.

Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil
Usually when I use a bronzer I go for something like the Physician's Formula Butter bronzer or the Becca Capri Coast, but those both have a bit of a sheen/shimmer to them and in winter I like to go for something more matte. Too Faced has three different shades of their matte chocolate bronzers, and the lightest one works well for me. The scent of cocoa in the morning is also lovely!

Essence Satin Touch Blush in Satin Love
Again, sticking with the matte trend, I've been loving this soft, affordable blush from Essence. The shade is neutral and perfect for winter.

Colourpop Lunch Money
Now to add a bit of a glow, I reach for Lunch Money: a pale gold that melts beautifully into the skin and can give either a natural radiance or a beaming highlight. The Colourpop formula is similar to their eyeshadows as it is a creamy mousse texture. I like to apply it with my fingers to all the high points of my face.

Tartelette in Bloom palette
A simple palette with warm tones, cool tones, mattes, and shimmers? Look no further! Though it is definitely a basic palette, it has everything that I need and the formula is great. At the moment I'm loving the cool tones in this palette!

Nyx Epic Ink Liner
I talk about this eyeliner all the time and for good reason! The brush-tip applicator glides across the lid effortlessly. I've been using the same liner for months and it hasn't dried up on me! It's so annoying when you are trying to do a wing and a liner dries up when you get to the second eye. Even some of my high-end liners do that to me, but this Nyx one doesn't.

Ciate Wonderwand
I still haven't found my holy-grail mascara, which needs to be affordable, lengthening, volumizing, and easy to use, but the Ciate Wonderwand ticks every box except the price. I'm still using a sample I got a few months ago and I love it so much I'm considering purchasing the full size. It has an hourglass-shaped applicator so it gives lots of volume but no clumps.

Urban Decay Comfort Matte Vice lipstick in Hitch Hike
Is there anything better than a red lipstick in winter? Most of my daily activities like work and school don't call for a red lip, so instead I've been going for this muted terra-cotta shade which is absolutely gorgeous. It's not quite a nude, but it's not bold, either. I think it would look gorgeous on most skin tones and the comfort matte formula is just that: comfortable!

  1. Does the RMCA powder leave a white cast? I've heard that it doesn't flash back, but does it look white on the skin at all?

    1. If you lightly dust it over the skin I don't think that it does, but if you build it up or try to bake with it it looks white! I have very pale skin so I'm not the best judge of it haha.

  4. Essence Satin Love is beautiful and so affordable! I got the Ciate mascara in a beauty box but I didn't like it that much, it was too dry for my liking and I had to apply too many coats to make it work.

  8. By the sounds of it I definitely need to try out that Elf Foundation. I too adore that rcma no colour powder (even though the packaging is horrendous) and the tarte in bloom palette.

  9. I haven't touched my Tartelette in Bloom Palette or Hitchhike lipstick in ages. I've been dealing with some nasty dry skin too.

  13. I have a feeling I always write the same comments to your posts - great photos, I love your short reviews. But it's true :D
Love the colors of blush and highlight, eyeshadow palette looks great, so does the lipstick. They are all in shades which I would go for. And it's great to hear about the eyeliner not drying out cause I really want to use this kind of liner and they all dry before the second application >.<
p.s. well done working 2 jobs, college, blogging... amazing!
