November Empties

And the monthly makeup decluttering continues! For a certified hoarder like myself, that is a major accomplishment and I hope I can continue it into December. Any product that I don't enjoy using or don't use often, I'm tossing or giving away. It isn't recorded here but I gave away a few eyeshadow palettes that I don't like, and I also went through my eyeliners and trashed the ones that are old! Hence all the liners in this post...

The Good:

Biore Deep Pore charcoal cleanser
Once I discovered this drugstore gem, I haven't changed up my cleansers at all. It removes all my face makeup and makes my skin feel clean but not too dry. My sister has oily skin and she loves it, too, especially the refreshed feeling after you wash it off! It feels like icy-hot but it's not unpleasant. This does dry my skin out a little bit, but I only use it at night so when I follow up with a thicker night cream I don't have any problems with it. Repurchased!

Luminessence Pumpkin Pie Candle
This scent is perfect for autumn! I picked it up for only $1 and it lasted me more than a month. The scent wasn't overpowering but it was lovely, I wish I had another one even if it's not as season-appropriate. I did buy another from Luminessence in a Peppermint scent!

Hey Honey 24Seven Day and Night Moisturizing Cream (sample)
I got this in an Ipsy bag over the summer and love it as a nighttime moisturizer! It sinks in quickly but it's a heavier cream than my daytime moisturizer. I will be purchasing the full size when I've finished a few other samples.

Maybelline Lash Sensational
Maybelline mascaras are my favorite from the drugstore, and this is a good one. It separates the lashes nicely and holds a curl while lengthening and thickening them. My only gripe with it is that it takes a few weeks for the formula to dry out. It's not my absolute favorite, but I will probably repurchase it at some point.

Burt's Bees Coconut & Pear lip balm
This is one of my favorite lip balms to wear under lip products! It's light but still very hydrating, and I love the scent. It smells like sunscreen, in a good way. I'm trying out a Wild Cherry one from Burt's Bees but when that's finished I will go back to this!

The Okay/Not For Me:

Colourpop Lippie Stix in Nevermind
I received this in a mixed-up order from Colourpop a few months ago. I had ordered Lumiere but was sent this dark plum matte lippie stix instead. I like the formula, but I will never wear this color. I'm going to pass it on.

Dr. Teal's Pure Epsom Salt Soaking Solution in Eucalyptus and Spearmint*
I got this in an Influenster box a little while ago and used it up the next time I took a bath. The scent is nice, it's not overpowering and it doesn't smell too medicinal. I didn't have any aches when I used it, so I can't attest to it working on pains. It made my bath more relaxing but I wouldn't repurchase it as I rarely take baths.

Maybelline Lash Sensational Luscious (top) and Lash Sensational (bottom)

Maybelline Lash Sensational Luscious
I bought this around the same time as the Lash Sensational (see my comparison post here) and it doesn't perform as well as the original in my opinion. It lengthens and volumizes nicely but it can get clumpy very easily. I don't think I'll repurchase this.

Mary Kay eyeliner in Bronze
I've had this liner for quite a while and it lasted better than some other colors I had, but it's gotten very hard to use so I decided to toss it. I find the formula of this is pretty meh, it's not great but it's definitely usable. The newer version of these liners includes a sharpener at the tip which is really handy for revitalizing it whenever the tip starts to harden!

Rimmel Scandaleyes Thick and Thin eyeliner
I can't even remember when I picked this up so I figured that was a good sign that it should be thrown out! I never reached for it anyway, I prefer a felt-tip liner. The chiseled, calligraphy-pen inspired tip is interesting but I don't find that it is any easier than a felt tip or a brush tip. It felt like I was using a marker to apply my liner. It was nice for getting a really thin line but it wasn't quite black enough for my taste! I don't think I'll repurchase this one.

Lancome La Vie Est Belle perfume sample
You've got to love those handy perfume samples that you can throw in your bag or car and use at anytime! I finally finished this sweet, floral sample and while I like it, it's a little bit too strong for me. I prefer fruity scents anyway. It did last for ages so if you like floral scents this might be for you!

Avon Glimmersticks Cosmic Brown
I stole this from my mom ages ago and once again, since I couldn't remember when I got it I decided it was time to go. This is a pretty, sparkly light brown shade. I hate wearing black on my lower lash line so sometimes I would put this on my waterline, instead. It's good, it didn't dry out, but it's not one that I will repurchase (or retake from my mom, in this case haha).

Hard Candy Take Me Out Eyeliner pencil
I warned you that this post is eyeliner-heavy, I haven't done a proper clean out of my liners in a long time. This is a black pencil that is really good, but it's not for me. I hate sharpening pencils; I prefer a twist up or a liquid liner.

The Bad:

Clinique New Clover blush
My aunt gave me a couple of these and the color is absolutely beautiful, but every time I try to use it I can't get any pigment out of it! I can rub my finger as hard as I can in this powder and I don't get any color, it's hard as a rock. It's probably old, I don't know how long my aunt had it before she gave it to me.

Colourpop Nevermind (left) and Nyx Athens (left)

Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream in Athens
I know this is a really popular drugstore item, but I don't like anything about it. The color is too orange for me, it doesn't look nice with my skintone. It applies really patchy/thinly and takes ages to dry. Every time I touched my lips together the color was displaced. It also felt quite drying, so all around it's a 'no' from me. I've heard that the darker colors are better.

LA Colors eyeliner
I remember I bought this because I'd left my eyeliner at home, so I just popped into the Dollar Tree and bought the first black liner I could find. This was okay for the price, but it fades very quickly. The cap is also really close to the top of the liner, so if you twist it up just a little bit too high...snap. After this happened about three times I was done with the hassle of sharpening it.

Hard Candy liquid eyeliner--no longer available
This is one of those liners that has a brush-tip applicator and you dip it into a little pot that contains the liner. This smudges really easily and it was hard to get a crisp line with it, the formula is so watery that it goes everywhere.

Hopefully I will be back again next month with another empties post! I think I will try to tackle my lip products next, I know there are a lot I should get rid of...

Have you decluttered recently? Are you good at it?
Xx Katie

  1. Too bad you received Colourpop Nevermind instead of Lumiere, it is clearly darker and sometimes difficult to wear a shade like this. I haven't tried NYX Athens but I have Cannes which is a dark nude shade and I love it, Athens is too orange and I don't think I would ever look good in it. Have a lovely weekend Katie :)

  3. It's a shame about the Colourpop colour, if you need someone to give that dark plum shade to, I'm right over here ;) I get exactly what you mean about some of the NYX soft matte lip cream shades - I have a few, but honestly the shade Cairo on me looks so bad, and so patchy, it's laughable! Xx

  5. That's to bad about the lip cream, I have been really pleased with them. Although I know what you mean with the orange shade, Buenos Aires is like that for me.

  7. I've tried the two variations of Lash Sensational you have here and I completely agree, Luscious is no where near as good as the original!

  8. Wow that really sucks that Colourpop gave you the wrong color. Lumiere would definitely have suited your skin tone. I really don't like how the NYX soft mattes are more on the patchier side and I feel like I have to apply a lot for the pigmentation, but I admit that I do love the shades!

  11. Clinique is a great brand, but their powder products don't usually have much pigmentation.
    Great post!
