Review: Maybelline Color Jolts

I rarely wear a lip product two or more days in a row, so when I do I know I’ve found a gem! I haven’t been inspired to do a product review in a very long time but I love this so much I had to let everyone know.

I first heard about Maybelline’s new Color Jolt line from Tati’s channel. The swatches were very impressive and I tend to take her word on products, so I knew I wanted to try one of these! The shade I liked most was Stripped Down and luckily I found it at the drugstore the next day for about $8.

The Color Jolts have squeeze-tube packaging in the same color as the product within, so if you have multiple shades it is easy to tell them apart. It is applied with a slanted fuzzy application. The packaging is definitely inspired by the Too Faced Melted lipstick line, and many say that these are dupes. I can’t attest to the formulas as I haven’t tried the Melted line, but the packaging and application seems almost identical to me. You get less product with the Maybelline ones but the price is also much lower.

To be honest, I would have preferred a traditional doe-foot applicator with these as the felt tip (in my mind) seems germy or dirty after multiple uses. It’s also hard to get a precise line, so if you get a bold shade of the Color Jolts I would recommend using a lip liner or maybe a lip brush. I chose a nude so this isn’t a huge problem for me!

Stripped Down, the shade I chose, is a brown/pink nude that is darker than the other nudes in my collection. It’s not exactly a summer color, but I’ve been obsessed with it for the past two weeks.
I absolutely adore the shade, pigmentation, and formula of this. I’m not a huge fan of traditional matte liquid lipsticks; I like a glossy finish sometimes and I hate drying products. This gloss is super pigmented, glossy, and is comfortable on the lips. The swatch is just one swipe of the product! It lasts until you eat or drink anything substantial.

I’m definitely going to look through the other shades soon and buy any others I like!

Would you try the new Color Jolts?

Xx Katie

  1. That is such a beautiful shade. Something I would definitely wear. I have been hearing some positive things about these so I may pick up a couple of them though I really don't like the applicator that much but the product sounds great itself. x

  9. This looks like such a pretty shade and the formula seems a dupe for the Too Faced Melted lipsticks... ;)

  15. Oh this look's so interesting and a product I'd love to try! I've never tried a lip product with that kind of applicator, so it would be good to try it out for myself and see how I like it compared with other lip products xx
