June Pop Culture Favorites

Long time no see! As always this month seemed to fly by, but I have a lot more favorites than usual so I decided to split them up into two posts: pop culture and beauty favorites.

First Makeup Geek Haul!

Well, I finally did it: I took the plunge and placed a Makeup Geek order. I’ve been making a MUG eyeshadow wishlist for months now so I did a bit of research and narrowed it down to five eyeshadows, two foiled and three regular.

At the moment I’m keeping the shadows in my MAC pro palette, but they keep sliding around so I’m going to order a Z palette to store them properly. The five that I purchased don’t really go together, but they all drew me in for different reasons and I think I’ll get a lot of use out of them, especially once I start building a Makeup Geek palette!

Starting with the regular shadows, I bought Shimma Shimma, Cinderella and Rapunzel. I love the formula of all of these, although they are all a little bit different! Shimma Shimma is naturally the most shimmery and the formula is very smooth and pigmented. Rapunzel is also shimmery but when applied or swatched it looks more sheer. This feels so incredibly silky. Cinderella, while slightly shimmery, by comparison is less pigmented and the shimmer isn’t very noticeable.

Shimma Shimma is a very popular highlight shade and now I can see why! This pale silvery-pink color is perfect for the inner forcer. I also like to use it on the center of the lid in combination with Cinderella for  a bit of extra glow.

Rapunzel can be worn on the lid or as a highlight shade. It’s a stunning pale yellow-gold. I haven’t noticed any fallout with this, likewise with the other regular shadows, and I think this will be really versatile in a palette.

Cinderella is a pale pink shade that isn’t quite as pigmented as the other shades I bought. I personally love wearing pink on my eyes as long as it isn’t too bright, so this definitely delivers. It compliments Starry Eyed, one of the foiled shades I bought, and Shimma Shimma really well.

As I mentioned before, I bought two foiled shades. The Makeup Geek foiled eyeshadows have been incredibly hyped and my expectations were high. The two I bought don’t quite live up to expectations, but I do really enjoy them and they look stunning on the eyes. My biggest issue with them is fallout; they are a little bit chunky and when they are applied with a brush the glitter seems to go down my face. I find it much better to apply them with my fingers for a beautiful finish.
Swatches from left to right: Cinderella, Rapunzel, Shimma Shimma, Starry Eyed, Flamethrower

The first foiled shade I bought, which I mentioned before, was Starry Eyed. This has the most gorgeous metallic finish, just the sort that I like. However, like I said earlier, this can be a little chunky and it’s tricky to apply, but the end result is so worth it!

The last eyeshadow that I purchased, another foiled shade, is the one I was most excited about. It’s called Flamethrower and it’s a pure, metallic copper unlike any other eyeshadow I own. I love wearing this all over the lid for a unique and somewhat bold eye look. It lasted all day without a primer but again, I like using my fingers for this shade to avoid fallout or patchiness!

Overall I’m thrilled with the quality of the Makeup Geek eyeshadows. For the same price as MAC, I think these are a better formula for me. I can’t wait to order more!

Do you have any MUG shadows?

June 2016 Ipsy Bag Review

After seeing sneak-peeks of the contents of this month’s Ipsy bag on Instagram I was very excited for it to arrive! This month’s theme is all about being rebellious, and I think most of the items fit the bill.

Collective Haul: Kat von D, Stila, Elf, Buxom and more!

Since I started working full time, it seems that every time I go into a shop I leave with a few products. I spent most of the school year being frugal and now all I want to do is splurge! While it’s not great for my bank account, I have been doing a ton of haul posts lately and this one is even bigger than usual.

June Wishlist

Recently I started working full-time for the summer and with a larger pay check comes a lot more splurging on my part! In an attempt to keep that under control I’ve decided to make a wish list of the only things I’m going to buy in June.

The fashion website Rosegal.com contacted me in regards to trying out some of their products, so I have tons of items from them on my wishlist! Their jewelry in particular caught my eye, as well as a cute shirt and dress that would be perfect for summer.

On their website I went on a bit of a jewelry frenzy, there are so many items I want to get! The leaf-shaped ring is something I've always loved on other people so I found two different options, I think I like the colored rhinestone one better. The masquerade ring caught my eye as it's so unique but pretty and of course the seashell/starfish duo ring just screamed my name! I also loved their earring selection, I've been wanting to try a cuff for ages and I found another pair that I really like as well. Everything is super affordable so I won't be breaking the bank, either!

On the beauty side of things, I’ve finally decided to place a Makeup Geek order. Shimma Shimma, Mesmerized, Frappe, Cinderella, Rapunzel, Twilight, and Starry eyed are all on my list but I don’t think I’ll end up buying all of them. If you have any other MUG recommendations I’d love to hear them!

A few months ago I tried and fell in love with the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer. Unfortunately, this primer is quite expensive and I don’t think I can justify the purchase to myself. I’ve heard the Nyx Angel Veil primer is a dupe for the Hourglass one so I’m willing to give it a try!

As far as dark circles go, mine aren’t too bad. However, I feel like I have to layer on concealer to cover them up and then add a brightening powder to highlight the area. With Becca’s Undereye Brightening Corrector I can merge those two steps and not use as much product in that area. This corrector, which has a slight peach tone, neutralizes the darkness and brightens the area.

Who doesn’t love an affordable highlighter? Wet n Wild have released some that look absolutely gorgeous as a part of their summer collection and I can’t wait to get my hands on them! Every time I’m in the drugstore I rush over to the Wet n Wild section to look for them, but they haven’t been stocked yet. Rest assured the moment they are in stock I will have them!

I’ve been on a bit of a lip balm kick lately so it’s only natural that the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatments caught my eye! I love a red tint so Cherry sounds like the one for me. They're a bit expensive for a lip balm, but from the reviews I've seen the tint is very strong, more like a sheer lipstick than a tinted lip balm.
What's on your June wishlist?

Lash Sensational vs. Lash Sensational Luscious

Has there been a drugstore mascara more hyped than the Maybelline Lash Sensational? It’s a holy grail for many and considering how affordable it is, I had to try it!
