Detroit Beauty Haul

A few weekends ago I went on a trip to Detroit to see a Tigers game. Fortunately we got rained out so I didn't have to sit through nine innings of baseball (it's four too many if you ask me), but the best part of the vacation was the shopping! There are tons of malls to choose from with dozens of stores each, some high end and some more affordable.

The nearest Ulta, Sephora or department store to me is at least three hours away, so I'd been looking forward to going to Sephora for months. There are certain products that I just need to test out in person--you can't match yourself to a foundation online!

Too Faced Born This Way foundation in Light Beige
The first item I bought is this beautiful foundation that Lady Gaga would be proud of. I've tried a sample and I loved the finish it gave; it was glowy but not dewy, high coverage but not cakey, basically everything I want for a fall/winter foundation. I'm slightly worried about the color match because they were out of my shade, but I'm planning on tanning throughout the winter to keep my summer shade.

Origins GinZing moisturizer
I'm almost out of my Hey Honey moisturizer sample, which I love, so I decided to go for something a little lighter. The scent of this is amazing, I love the refreshing orange-ginger! This absorbs into the skin quickly and makes it feel really smooth and hydrated. I haven't given this a proper test as I've only had it for a week, but so far I like it.

Tarte Amazonian Clay blush in Glisten
I had a sample of this shade and I really liked it, so I decided to get the full size. Glisten is a pretty bright pink shade with gold shimmer. Unfortunately, by the time this got home it has a decent crack in it. It's still usable and I'll put up with it to get to the pretty product, but I might try to fix it later on.

Stila Illuminating Foundation in 30 Watts
I know, I know, do I really need to pick up two foundations at once? This was too good of a deal to pass up and if I don't stick to my tanning regimen (which is very likely) I'll need a paler base for winter. At least, that's what I told myself to justify purchasing it! I haven't tried this on it's own yet so I can't give my opinion, but hopefully I can use it at some point soon. Texture wise, it feels more aqueous than Born This Way and it looks like it would be medium coverage.

MAC Satin Lipstick in Viva Glam II
My first time at a MAC counter and I only bought one lipstick! I can't believe it. The poor girls who were working were swamped so I didn't want to bother them too much. Mostly I wanted to swatch some of the eyeshadow shades so I know which ones I want to order. However, when I saw and swatched this lipstick it was love at first sight. In the tube it looks like a grey-toned beige nude, but on the skin it has almost a mauvey nude look to it. It's similar to Honey Love, which is my favorite MAC shade. The satin finish is also really nice.

Victoria's Secret Warm Vanilla Lip Oil
Victoria's Secret was having a massive sale so of course the lines at the counter were loooong. While in line I noticed these lip oils were only $0.99, so I chucked one in my bag. I haven't tried many lip oils but this one is my favorite. It's in a rollerball so it dispenses just the right about of products on your lips. It feels very nourishing and it doesn't have a strong scent like some of my other oils do. I've been using this every day before applying lipstick!

Born This Way in Light Beige, Illuminating foundation in 30 Watts, Glisten, Viva Glam II, Lip Oil

Along with makeup I also bought a ton of new clothes, but I'm pretty shit at fashion blogging so I won't include them. I'm all ready for the new school year, which started on Monday!

What are some of your recent purchases?

Xx Katie

  1. Oh I love the Born This Way Foundation! To me, it's so moisturizing and not cakey but gives me a flawless finish. I want to get the GinZing eye cream, I've heard nothing but amazing stuff about it.

  3. I love the Born This Way foundation! I just got it last week and I'm loving it. It was a bit more money than I have ever spent on a foundation, but I think it is well worth it.
