Summer Empties

The more products I finish, the more justified I am in buying new ones, so this summer has been all about finishing! I think I’ve done quite well so far, for me anyway! Completely using a product is the best way to see whether or not it works for you so my opinion on these products have been a long time coming.

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream
This was my go-to summer base for all of summer ’15. The lightest shade is a pretty good match for my skin when it has some color and this blends really quickly—perfect for those morning shifts at the pool! It has a light coverage and SPF 30. I finished this up about two months ago and while I did like it, I wanted to try something different so I picked up the Physicians Formula Argan Wear BB cream instead. If you can find a shade that matches you, I do recommend this for people with normal to dry skin. I might end up keeping the bottle of this in case I want to talk about it in an upcoming post!

Purespa Lavender Body Cream
I’m not completely finished with this, but the formula is starting to dry and I’m not a big fan of the scent. I don’t even remember where I got this, I think it was a gift at a baby shower or something? It was nice while it lasted but I won’t be repurchasing this as I have so many other lotions to get through!

Wet n’ Wild Megalength mascara
This was my go-to mascara for natural looking lashes! The thin, bendable wand makes it easy to reach every lash and the formula wasn’t too wet or too dry. I especially like it for the bottom lashes and I would reach for it just for the lower lash line. I think I will repurchase this soon after I clear out a few of my other mascaras! I find myself missing this whenever I go to apply mascara on the lower lashes.

C.O. Bigelow Mentha Lip Tint
…AKA the neverending tube of lip gloss. I’ve had this since I was in the sixth grade and it felt like a real accomplishment to finish it! This has a nice minty taste/scent and a pretty, rosy tint. Mint lip products feel drying to me so I’m not going to repurchase this, although I do like the shade!

Suave Sweet Pea and Violet deodorant
Do people usually include deodorant in empties posts? This one was okay, nothing special. It smells florally and kind of grandmother-y.

Clinique blush in Red Clover
My aunt gave this to me last year and I remember using it a few times and enjoying it, but lately I can’t get any pigmentation out of it. The formula has completely dried up, even with my fingers I can’t get a swatch. It’s a shame because I love the color! I think I’ll give the Clinique Pop blushes a try, instead.

Maybelline Fit Me Shine Free Foundation Stick
I bought this originally to use as a concealer and I never did get around to trying it as a foundation…alas, this is definitely expired and it was taking up space in my foundation/concealer drawer, so I’m going to discard it. It worked well as a light-coverage concealer.

Avene Micellar Lotion sample
I received this in an Ipsy bag (post) a few months ago and at first I thought it was a lotion! In my defense, it is called Micellar Lotion, but it’s intended use is as a makeup remover. I know a lot of people swear by micellar water but I didn’t like this very much. It was great at removing face makeup but not eye makeup, and I don’t use waterproof products. When I used this it was an extra step in my routine. I can’t compare this to any other micellar waters so if you are a fan of that type of product you might enjoy this!

Covergirl Perfect Plus eyeliner
If I have a Holy Grail eye pencil, this is it! It lasts ages and applies creamily until the last use. The thin tip never needs to be sharpened and it is perfect for tightlining, getting in the waterline, or applying above the lash line for natural-looking thick lashes. I wasn’t initially going to repurchase it as I have a ton of other black eyeliner pencils, but I really missed using it! I picked another up last week and it’s remaining on my top shelf.

Blistex Medicated lip balm
I’ve been using this since I was a child so I go through loads of this stuff, although I’m trying to test a few others on the side! In other words, this is my main and I think it always will be. The scent probably isn’t for everyone but this feels intensely hydrating, has SPF 15, and just generally ticks all the boxes for me. I already took a replacement from my mom, who buys this is bulk because everyone in my family uses it!

Revlon Lash Potion Grow Luscious mascara
Another product that is just old—I really need to declutter, I have a makeup hoarding problem. This mascara is okay, not something that I would repurchase but I didn’t hate it. I don’t think this is available anymore because Revlon redid all their mascaras. The wand on this is absolutely massive so it was tricky to coat all of your lashes evenly. Other than that, I really liked the formula of this!

I feel like I’ve finished a lot since summer began! Before school starts I’m going to do a big makeup declutter because I’m sure I have a lot of products that are past their prime or I simply don’t like/use, so my next empties post will be very, very full.

What products have you finished lately?

Xx Katie

    1. It had a nice light/medium coverage that wasn't too heavy, although I think if you have oily skin you might not get on with it! x
