All the Missing Girls by Megan Miranda
This book is being compared to crime novels that I love, such as Gillian Flynn's Gone Girl and Paula Hawkin's The Girl on the Train. So far it's very intriguing and a little hard to follow. The plot revolves around Nicolette, a woman who goes back to her hometown to help her brother sell their ailing father's house. Her former best friend, Corinne, went missing ten years ago and when Nicolette arrives back in town another girl goes missing. Nicolette isn't the most reliable narrator, as I'm beginning to learn. This story has an interesting twist: most of it is told backwards.

I Hunt Killers Series by Barry Lyga
I started the first book on the recommendation of Maggie Stiefvater, one of my favorite authors. It's a series about Jasper Dent, the son of one of the most famous serial killers in the world. Jasper was taught to have sociopathic and cruel tendencies by his father but is trying very hard to suppress them. A new serial killer starts leaving bodies in his town and he tries to solve the murders. The story is really interesting and I need to order the third book soon!

Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
I usually love to read classics, but unfortunately I find this one quite boring. It's about the two Dashwood sisters, Elinor and Marianne, who are both left with little after their father passes away. The sole plot of this book seems to be the two sisters trying to get married.

The Two Towers by J. R. R. Tolkien
For such a famous series, it's surprising that I haven't already read the Lord of the Rings books. Last semester I took a Mythology class and was required to read the Hobbit, which I really liked. I decided to continue on with the series and picked up this trilogy. The first book was okay, but I'm hoping it will get more action-oriented as it goes on.

The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley
Continuing my King Arthur reading, this series focuses on the women in the legends. I'm reading it as an e-book so it's taking me a little while to get through, but so far I really like the detail it goes to. At the moment the story is focusing on Igraine, Arthur's mother, who was forcibly married to an old duke.

I'm always looking for new books to read so I would love to hear your recommendations!

  1. I found Sense & Sensibility boring as well. I prefer the film!

  2. I haven't heard of any of these books, it's a shame to hear about Sense and Sensibility because it looks so cute but hey, don't judge a book by its cover I guess!
