November Favorites

Is it just me or has this month seemed to drag on and on? I've had one exam after another! Thankfully winter break is in sight so I will be blogging a lot more, and my next semester should be easier than this one. Somehow I've managed to have only three days of classes a week! I'm really excited, and I'll be posting on my days off.
I've got quite a few new beauty discoveries as well as an old favorite I dug out again. I've been a bit naughty with my spending this month so I have a lot of new products, but I'm still on the fence about them so I'll likely include them in next month's favorites if I end up liking them!

I just reviewed this product here if you'd like an in-depth look at it, but long story short this mascara is like nothing I've tried before. I don't usually spend a lot of time on my lashes, but this mascara helps me put a spotlight on them. It's fun to use and it works really well!

Almost all of my perfumes are either fruity or floral, so I'd been looking for an autumn/winter scent for ages. Ladies and gentlemen, this is it. I must admit that in the bottle it doesn't smell that great, it's really musky and cologne-y which I didn't like at first, but on the skin it smells like chocolate, caramel and spices. Give this a try next time you're at a perfume counter, it might grow on you!

I bought this palette last year for my birthday (review here) and I've been using it on and off ever since. It's definitely a neutral palette, but a lot of the shades are warm so I like it for this time of year. The mattes are so soft and easy to blend while the shimmers were well-chosen to accompany the mattes.

These are something I've been using every single day since I got them--two different blending brushes. They look a little cheap, but pretty, and considering I got them at the dollar store I wasn't expecting much. However, these are budget-friendly miracle workers. They blend so well! It seems like no matter how much excess shadow I grab, these will blend them perfectly. I'm so happy with the two that I have and I'm hoping to get a few backups soon as mine are always dirty from how much I use them! I'm not sure if the one I've linked is the exact one that I have, but it seems similar.

As always, I've been watching and reading a few new things as well. During a Black Friday sale I picked up Mad Max, American Horror Story: Asylum and Coven, and the second season of Game of Thrones, all of which I can't wait to watch! I also recently watched The Martian. It surprised me how much I liked it; it had a lot of funny bits and it got quite tense.

As for TV shows, on Netflix I binged Black Mirror which is a really cool series. Each episode has a different plot, storyline and characters, usually themed around technology. One episode is about a woman who lost her husband and uses a new program to imitate his voice and mannerisms, for example. Some episodes were a little too strange for my tastes, but overall this series is amazing and it's definitely worth a look! Some have a great message to them and I wish an entire series would be created around them. 'Nosedive' is particularly interesting for a social-media obsessed world.

I've also been watching a new ABC series called Eyewitness, which is about two teenage boys who witness a gang-related murder. The first episode was really good and then it dies down a little, but the past few episodes (number 5 onward) have picked up the suspense again. It's on Sunday nights at 10 here in the US so I watch it right after the Walking Dead!

It took me a long time to give into the hype, but I finally finished the Girl on the Train by Paula Hopkins. It's good enough to make it into my favorites, but I had been expecting a bit more from all of the fuss around it. It's from the point of view of three different women, Rachel, Megan, and Anna. Rachel is the primary character. Divorced from her husband and very depressed with her life, Rachel drinks a lot. She rides a certain train every day and from the window she can see a beautiful husband and wife, whom she starts making up stories about. She sees suspicious things from the train (no spoilers here!) and shortly after the wife goes missing. Megan, another character, is the missing woman, and her past is shown in her point of view. Anna, the other character, is the woman Rachel's husband left her for. Overall it's a good, suspenseful crime book. I prefer Gillian Flynn novels (Sharp Objects is my favorite!) but this was a good read anyway! I can't wait for the movie.

I must get back to studying for my final exams but soon after that I will be free and ready to post my regular 3-4 times a week! It seems that not blogging stresses me out more than blogging does!

What have you been loving this month?

Xx Katie

  1. LOL not blogging totally stresses me out more than blogging does too!

You've got a great set of favorites here :) The wet n wild brushes are pretty good for the price. Plus they're so pretty! Black Mirror sounds really cool. I'm always down for a new show to binge watch so I'll add it to my queue :)

  2. Good luck on your final exams!!! The girl on the train sounds really interesting, I am not usually into these stories, I am more of a romantic books reader but this story sounds really good, I will definitely pick this one next!

  3. Man, I really need to get in to The Girl on the Train, EVERYONE'S talking about it. I'm a huge American Horror Story fan, too - I'm sure you'll enjoy Coven and Asylum. :) A great set of favourites you've got here; I've been wanting to give the In Bloom palette a whirl for a while now. :)

  4. I want the tartlette palette so so much, I'm hopefully going to treat myself to it next year! I liked the Girl on the Train, but I agree it wasn't THAT good, I've read better thriller/crimes (try Behind Closed Doors by BA Paris) which I much preferred! xx

  5. Good luck on your finals! I haven't touched my Tartelette palette in a while. And never underestimate Wet n Wild: they have some amazing hidden jewels. I don't have any of their brushes but I can see how they are pretty sturdy and high quality for the price they are!

  9. Yes, yes, yes to Angel and it's the only one I wear throughout A/W. I recently sniffed Black Opium and it might be my next scene to try.
