Makeup Worth the Hype

I feel like, especially recently, there is a ton of hype surrounding every makeup launch. Products always seem to be either selling out or just restocked, the newest releases are always must-haves, and as a consumer it is hard to know what is actually worthwhile and what is just hype.

I myself have really slowed down my makeup purchasing in the past year or so. I was that girl who bought dozens of slightly different neutral palettes, or spent a ton of money just for limited-edition packaging. Now I wait and read a bunch of reviews, from influencers big and small, to see if a product is really worth the price tag. There are a few items that are truly worth the hype and that I would recommend to anyone who's looking for something really special!

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blushes
These blushes are not messing around. They are pigmented but easy to blend, glowy but not glittery. Mood Exposure is the only shade I have but I would love to get more! They are pricey, but definitely worth the splurge if you're able to get one. They also have good staying power and a wide shade range.

Tarte Shape Tape concealer
I'm sure you've heard about this before--I'm not the only one who raves about it! If you want high coverage without a cakey finish, this is the concealer for you. Bonus: you get a ton of product in here and it's actually cheaper than a lot of the comparable concealers, like the popular ones from NARS and Urban Decay.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette
I wasn't at all interested in this palette at first. I even included it in an Antihaul several months ago. After seeing and swatching it in person, however, I changed my mind and I'm glad I did. The colors are warm but still neutral. It can be both an everyday palette, with some beautiful nude crease shades, or you can dip into those gorgeous berry shades for a more dramatic look. If you are attracted to these colors, I highly recommend it.

Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution lipstick in Pillowtalk
I'm obsessed with this lipstick! I love everything about it, from the formula to the shade to the heavy copper packaging. I know of at least one blogger (shoutout to Hannah from Floraful!) who found these lipsticks drying, but I personally haven't struggled with them. I actually find them one of the most comfortable matte lipsticks around and I think they are worth the hype! Bond Girl is the next shade on my list.

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfectors
I've mentioned these dozens of times on my blog, but I couldn't do a post like this without them! Moonstone has been my favorite highlighter for the past two years. I find that the formulas of these can vary. Champagne Pop and Prosecco Pop, which I have in my Jaclyn Hill face palette, are both a bit rougher than Opal and Moonstone. They are still very metallic and smooth, though, so still worth the hype! There is a shade for everyone so if you're a highlighter fan, give these a try.

Physician's Formula Butter Bronzer
If you've got fair skin, this is the perfect light, blendable bronzer. It's not too warm or ashy, it just gives a natural and subtle glow to the skin. It has a tropical scent to it and has the most unusual texture and finish. It feels so smooth that it's almost creamy when you swatch it, and it has a beautiful sheen to it that isn't shimmery at all. I know Physician's Formula isn't available in every country, but if you can get your hands on this bronzer I don't think you'll be disappointed!

From left to right: Mood Exposure, Butter Bronzer, Moonstone, Opal, Champagne Pop, Prosecco Pop, Pillowtalk

Tempera, Golden Ochre, Vermeer, Buon Fresco, Antique Bronze, Love Letter, Cyprus Umber
Raw Sienna, Burnt Orange, Primavera, Red Ochre, Venetian Red, Warm Taupe, Realgar

And there we have it--six very popular products that I would recommend to just about anyone.

Are there any majorly hyped products that you think are worth the buzz?

Xx Katie

  4. I do like a number of Physician's Formula products like their 'twin concealer' and they have a bronzer that looks very natural sun-kissed and not muddy (I can't remember the name of the colour / product). I bought some IT brushes lats year and I love them - I see a big difference in quality brushes. I also love NARS tinted foundation in 'Alaska'...

  6. I got the Modern Renaissance palette a few months ago and been loving it. And I have two hourglass blushers and I definitely want more! I think that a product worth the buzz is the new L'Oréal lash paradise mascara. I got it in waterproof and it's so good.

  13. I get the impression we have similar skin tones/taste in makeup because I always agree with so many of your makeup recommendations and really trust your choices! I wasn't fussed at all by the MR palette either but recently I've been getting the urge and I really might just buy it now if you love it so much!

  22. I still haven't got my claws on shape tape sadly, I think I'm the only blogger without it. Everytime I have money to spend on make up, the fair shade is out of stock on QVC. It's starting to drive me a bit mad!
