The Ride or Die Makeup Tag

If you’ve been on YouTube lately, chances are you’ve seen the Jaclyn Hill Ride or Die tag doing the rounds with the beauty gurus. The idea of the tag is if you were to lose all of your makeup, which product of each category would you repurchase first? It’s a great way to see someone’s true favorites and I tried my best to narrow down each category, but it’s so hard!

Starting with my face makeup, I’ve got to be honest when I say I don’t regularly use a primer. Makeup tends to last on my skin and I haven’t found a primer that does everything for me. However, sometimes I wear a primer if I know my makeup needs to last for hours and hours, so in that case I go for the Nyx Angel Veil primer. This smooths out my skin without making it feel dry.

Foundation was tough for me, but my all-time favorite has to be the MAC Studio Sculpt, especially for the autumn and winter months when my skin looks dull and dry. This foundation doesn’t exaggerate texture and it is glowy and full-coverage. The bottle lasts ages, too!

My favorite corrector is the Becca Undereye BrighteningCorrector (review here). Sometimes I wear this alone, but more often I layer Maybelline’s Fit Me concealer over top of it to vanquish my dark circles. On blemishes I use the Bareminerals Bareskin Serum concealer. It’s a little too hydrating for my undereye area, but on old acne scars it’s amazing.

My holy grail contour shade is Benefit’s Hoola bronzer, which I have in my Cheekathon palette (review here). This bronzer is matte and neutral, which I prefer over cool-toned contour powders on my warm skin. However, when I bronze the rest of my face I like something with a sheen to it so NARSLaguna is my go-to for that task!

Although I only recently started wearing blush, it was hard to narrow down my favorite. Tarte, Clinique, Benefit and Becca all have amazing blushes but my favorite is the shade and light blush from Kat von D, which has actually been discontinued and I believe will be reformulated. I have the shade Mickey and Mallory, which is a two-toned blush with a dark peachy-pink and a light pink. When these two are mixed, it is my perfect blush color.

Hands down, my favorite highlighter is from Becca. I have four of the Shimmering Skin Perfector shades but Moonstone has to be my ride or die. I’ve been loving Champagne Pop recently, but I think I prefer Moonstone because it’s more finely milled and therefore can look subtle or full-on, whereas Champagne Pop almost always looks full-on.

I set everything with my Elf HD translucent powder. This is the only translucent powder I’ve tried, but I really do like it and I think I’ll stick with it.

Next we come to the most difficult part of the challenge: eyeshadow. I switch up my look every single day. I rotate through my palettes, quads, trios, duos and singles so I knew this would be hard. If I absolutely had to choose one, my favorite palette is the Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons. Too Faced shadows are some of my favorites and this palette has a great mix of colors, neutrals, mattes and shimmers.

For a trio eyeshadow (I couldn’t leave it at just a palette!) I had to go with my Stila Neapolitan trio. I love Stila shadows and these three are perfect for a fuss-free look. My favorite single is L’Oreal’s Amber Rush, a stunning rose gold shade unlike anything else I have in a palette. These two aren’t in the photos or swatches as I decided I needed to add them last minute!

My favorite liners are Covergirl’s Perfect Plus and Revlon’sColorstay. Perfect Plus is a pencil that you don’t have to sharpen and the Colorstay is a liquid liner that is very easy to use.

For mascara, while I love my samples of Better Than Sex and Stila’s Huge Extreme Lash, my go-to is Maybelline’s Colossal. It’s just so quick and easy. I never worry about flaking, smudging, or clumping and this gives me a ton of length and natural-looking volume.

I’m sure you’re sick to death of me talking about this lipstick but MAC’s Honeylove is my favorite. The matte formula is really comfortable and the nude shade is perfect for fair people like me.
A more recent favorite is Colourpop’s Ultra Satin Lip in Magic Wand. The formula is very comfortable and while it isn’t transfer-proof, it does last a long time.

I haven’t been wearing a lot of lip gloss lately, unless you count Maybelline’s Color Jolt in Stripped Down, but the one I like the most is Pink Sateen from Mary Kay. It’s nicely pigmented but not pigmented enough to count as a liquid lipstick, like the Color Jolts. Pink Sateen is fun, girly, and easy to wear, especially in the spring and summer.

I figured I might as well include scents in this post, so my favorite is Wonderstruck by Taylor Swift. I like all of Taylor Swift’s fragrances but the first one is one that I always come back to. It lasts for AGES. Once I put this on before swimming and I could still smell it on my wrist after I swam and showered. The scent is mostly fruity but not overly sweet. To me it smells like sparkling berries! I need to repurchase it because the nozzle recently broke and now it sprays out like a water jet rather than a fine mist.

As for lotions, my favorite is True Blue’s Shea Cashmere. This is a rich hand cream that smells like vanilla and cashmere. The scent goes along with any perfume that I’m wearing and it keeps my hands so soft. I have at least two backups, I love this so much!

Let’s just hope I never lose my entire makeup collection because A. I found it hard enough to pick my favorites in a hypothetical situation and B. it would cost me a small fortune!

What are some of your ride or die favorites? Do we have any in common?

Xx Katie

  1. I love the Wonderstruck perfume too, the problem is all of the people I'm close to can't stand it, so I hardly ever wear it:(
