October Favorites

October has been a wonderful month for new beauty and pop culture discoveries so it was really difficult to narrow it down to just my favorites! It's also officially too cold for me and I will be bundling up until April. If you live in Michigan, you understand my pain.

Beauty

I've been using a lot of new palettes this month but by far my favorite is the Anastasia Beverly Hills x Mario Dedivanovic Master Palette (review). This is truly a palette that you can use everyday, whether you're going out clubbing or you're just going to school. There are some beautiful unique shades and some that are a must-have in any makeup lovers collection. The formula is incredible as well! I'm obsessed.

Another discovery is from the drugstore and it's a foundation. I rarely like drugstore foundations, they're often too cakey for me, don't have enough coverage, or cling to my dry patches. Introducing the L'Oreal Pro Glow. There was no way in h*ll I would try it's sister, the Pro Matte foundation, as I really dislike matte finishes, but the Pro Glow is perfect for people with dry skin like me who want a radiant complexion! It feels completely weightless on the skin but still offers medium coverage and looks very natural. I'll be doing a full review of it soon!

A tiny little Sephora recently opened up in my local JC Penny and I had high hopes for it, but as it turns out it only sells popular items in travel sizes and Sephora Collection items. It's better than nothing, but I was quite disappointed. I ended up getting a travel size of the cult favorite NARS Radiant Creamy concealer and I'm very impressed so far. I'm going to get the full size as soon as I've finished the travel one. It's perfect for brightening and concealing the undereye area.

Hautelook recently carried many popular items from theBalm so I got a chance to try the popular Mary-Lou Manizer. In the pan it doesn't look like anything special, but once it's swatched or applied it has the most beautiful glow! I also picked up the Nude Tude palette which I'm still testing out, but expect a full review of both of the items soon.

Films

I'm not usually a big movie person; I prefer getting really invested in my characters and plot via a TV show. However, I recently watched Mad Max: Fury Road and I loved it. Yes, I'm the last person on Earth to watch it, I know. It had a ton of action but not in the way that I was expecting and I really liked the characters, especially Furiosa. All of the effects were great and the storyline was very well-developed. Feminists everywhere rejoice to see the strong female characters in this movie!

I've also been getting in full-on Halloween mode with Freeform's 13 Days of Halloween. My DVR is half full of movies now and I love doing my homework as I watch my old favorites, like Hocus Pocus, the Goonies, and Halloweentown! I also recorded all of the Harry Potter movies, which I haven't seen since they were in theatres, and I'm slowly making my way through them. I hope my Halloween spirit lasts past the 31st because there's no way I'm finishing all of them before the holiday!

TV

Scary TV shows have also been all the rage with me. The Walking Dead returned last week with a vengeance, as I'm sure you've all heard, and it was such a good premiere I had to include it in this post. I love that the show has been on for seven seasons but it still surprises me, even if one of my favorite characters was killed off in the process.

Another show I'm really impressed with is an Australian horror series called Wolf Creek, based off the film series of the same name. I haven't finished it yet but from what I've seen so far it's a good one! I've loved Aussie TV for years and I liked the Wolf Creek movies so it's a definite hit for me. It's airing in America on Pop TV I think if anyone wants to watch it over here!

Book

I've been reading a lot lately but the book that I loved the most is one I just finished yesterday called the Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. It tells the story of Achilles, a Greek hero, from his childhood to the Trojan War from the point of view of his friend and love Patroclus. I'm a big mythology nerd and I enjoyed the Iliad so it was interesting to see it in modern language and from this perspective, as it makes a lot of sense. The writing was beautiful and this was a book that I was sad to finish. I knew what would happen but I loved how Miller tied the events of the Iliad together with the Achilles/Patroclus romance.

What have you been loving this month?

  1. I really want to try the pro glow but haven't yet figured out what shade I am so can't buy it online :( This month for me has been filled with reading. I usually go through phases of reading nothing, or doing nothing but reading - and this month has definitely been the latter hahah!

  2. I've heard some really good things about the Pro Glow, but my skin is really oily so it probably wouldn't be too great for me. Glad it's working so well for you! Thanks for sharing your lovely picks with us, hun. :) <3

  7. I actually did a major clear out last month and threw away all my drugstore foundations as I never reached for them anymore. I am tempted to purchase Pro-Glow though, many dry skin lovelies seem to like it.
