Review: Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation

I bought this foundation in early 2015 after being matched for the shade 2.0 at Ulta. There is a lot to talk about with this product so let’s get right into it!

First of all, I adore the packaging. It’s sleek, it looks and feels very high-end, and it comes with a pump. The clear bottle and silver lid looks nice overall and it’s easy to travel with. You get 30 ml of product and it’s lasted me ages. I used this every single day last winter and spring, as well as a bit this fall, and I still have a lot of foundation left.

The formula is extremely aqueous and it moves around a lot as you pump it onto the back of your hand. I think it looks best when applied with a damp sponge or beauty blender, but a lot of the product is absorbed by the sponge so if you’re worried about wasting it, use a kabuki brush instead! This foundation has sheer to light coverage and it spreads quite evenly with a somewhat matte, somewhat satin finish.

While I love the idea of this foundation, the product definitely isn’t for me. For one, I was matched in the dead of winter for it and it no longer matches my skin tone now that I use a tanning lotion during the winter. I also prefer a foundation that will give you a glow, and this one has more of a matte finish.

If I had researched this product before I bought it I don’t think I would’ve made the purchase, and I won’t be repurchasing it.

Another problem I had was with my dry patches. I have normal to combination skin and I didn’t think it was very dry, but when I apply this foundation it emphasizes my dry cheeks and makes them look flaky. It looks great on my oily forehead, but definitely not on the dry areas of my face. Therefore, if you have dry skin you will want to skip out on this one.

However, I think this foundation would be great for anyone with oily skin looking for a light coverage foundation! There are a ton of shades to choose from, including warm and cool variations. I wish I had this in a slightly darker color so that I could wear it in the summer when my skin isn’t dry anymore. It’s available for $40.00 at Ulta, Sephora, Macy’s, etc. and online here!

Do you like the Urban Decay Naked product line? I love the eyeshadows of course, and I’ve heard the concealer is amazing, but this foundation wasn’t for me.

  1. Aw, what a bummer. I've heard a lot of great things about the foundation but since I suffer from pretty dry skin (especially in the colder months) I'll definitely have to pass on purchasing this guy. I'm curious to see how the concealer would suit me though! Thanks for the honest review! Xx

  2. I, too, have combination skin. I normally have a dry skin - not too dry where you can see my dry skin & patches, but certain foundations do make me oily after a few hours. I am not using any moisturizer or cleansing products, so do you think this product would be fine on my skin if I just use only primer before it?

    1. An oil free moisturizer would be a good idea, but this foundation looked nice in my oily areas so it would most likely work for you! A good primer can work wonders!

  3. Aw it's a shame this didn't work out for you - I have combination skin too and have some serious dry patches at the moment so think I'll skip this! xx
