Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Eye Shadow Palette

The Tarte Rainforest of the Sea palette is a brand new, limited edition eye shadow palette with 8 shadows inspired by the ocean. This literally just arrived at my doorstep and I’m so excited to swatch it, blend it and start trying out these eye shadows!

I already feel a personal attachment to this palette because I absolutely love the ocean. I feel like this was made just for me! Although the name of this collection suggests bright, flamboyant shades, the palette is quite neutral and wearable.

The packaging, on the other hand, is stunning and very bright. The shadows are kept in a circular metallic palette that feels high-end and sturdy. The top of the palette features a beautiful purple, blue and gold peacock-feather design. I love it.

Now let’s get to the product! The eight shades look really nice together and separately. A majority of the shadows are shimmery/metallic. Even the two matte shades have some reflective qualities. This isn’t a problem for me at all, I definitely prefer shimmery shadows to matte ones, but if you’re considering this palette be aware of that!

The formula of these eye shadows feels different from the Tartelette in Bloom formula. They are equally pigmented, but I would say that the Rainforest of the Sea shadows feel softer and more buttery. The shimmery shades are more intense than the few shimmery shades in the Tartelette in Bloom palette. The Rainforest of the Sea palette also doesn’t have a scent, while the Tartelette in Bloom smells strongly of vanilla (like a MAC lipstick!).

Breaking down the shades, with an * representing my favorites!

Seashell: shimmery mauve

Wave: shimmery steel blue

*Abyss: shimmery burgundy

*Reef: shimmery bronze (At first glance I thought this was similar to Firecracker from the Tartelette in Bloom palette, but when swatched this is darker, more pigmented, more metallic, and more burgundy-toned than Firecracker)

*Starfish: shimmery dark taupe

Cove: Matte light brown (Similar to Smarty Pants from the Tartelette in Bloom palette)

*Sand: somewhat shimmery pale beige

*Mermaid: shimmery golden brown

I probably would’ve purchased this palette based on the names alone. Who doesn’t want an eye shadow called Mermaid in their collection? (Fun fact: when I was younger the only thing I wanted in the whole world was to be a mermaid. I became a competitive swimmer instead.)

I can’t attest to the longevity of these eye shadows as I just got this palette today, but the shadows feel high-quality and there is no fall-out or chalkiness. I think I will use all the shades although there are a few standouts for me. That being said, I’m a bit disappointed that they didn’t include at least one bright shade. I’ll keep playing around with this palette and update this post if my opinion of it changes!

If you love shimmery, neutral palettes make sure you check this out while it’s still available! I think this is going to become a favorite of mine for sure. You can purchase this for yourself here or in Sephora!

  7. Packaging is so pretty and colourful! Even though the names are inspired by the ocean, eyeshadows don't look like that. Well I like these shades so I wouldn't ever complain.

    1. That's how I feel, I love neutral palettes but "Rainforest of the Sea" suggests much brighter shades :)

  12. I have heard so many good things about tarte and I have recently been eyeing up the foundation with the Amazonian clay, I have been reluctant to get it because of the price tag as I usually stick to high street brands but let me know if you have tried it!
